A manifesto is a promise to your future self, written where customers can hold you to it. That is why we publish one.

Ours comes down to nine commitments. They’re written once and published in three places: the Shopify App Store listing, gethokku.com, and inside the app itself. This post sums them up in one line each. The manifesto page is the reference version, with the full text.

Why publish a manifesto at all?

A merchant builds a store around its apps. Commitments only protect that merchant if they are written down from the start, in public, and not just in a changelog.

Publishing the manifesto in three places is what makes it binding. If we walk back on a promise, it’s not buried in a release note. It’s a visible breach of a public document, in three places at once.

The nine commitments

  1. Honest billing. The price displayed is the price paid: no revenue share, no usage-based pricing, no surprises, and billing stops when you uninstall.

  2. Visual-first design. You create offers by clicking, not reading, with a first-offer-live target of under three minutes.

  3. Built for the world. Hokku ships in ten native languages on day one, because we respect non-English merchants.

  4. Support, honest and fast. Hokku Assistant answers common questions instantly and always identifies itself as AI, while complex cases, disputes and emergencies get a personal reply from our team by email.

  5. Flat price. $9.99 USD Starter, $19.99 Pro, $39.99 Max: your rate stays locked for as long as your subscription stays active, and if we change prices, you keep yours and we tell you in advance (see pricing).

  6. Clear moderation policy. We only intervene on an account for illegal content, repeated support abuse or documented limit bypass, sensitive sectors are handled case by case, and you always get a written reason, 7-day notice except for security risks (Acceptable Use Policy, § 2.3), and a right to appeal.

  7. Performance first. Hokku is built to be fast and lightweight, and we commit to not slowing your store down.

Under the hood: the script of each product-page widget weighs under 15 KB gzipped, a ceiling checked on every build · TTFB target: under 30 ms.

  8. No noise. No spam. No bullshit. No intrusive popups, no unsolicited marketing emails, no “You unlocked a badge!” dopamine traps, a Free plan that is actually free, and no “Made with Hokku” branding forced on your storefront, even on Free.

  9. Accessible to everyone. Hokku works fully from the keyboard, with screen readers, and stays readable for colorblind users: accessibility isn’t optional, it’s a public commitment.

Under the hood: WCAG 2.1 AA compliance targeted, across the admin and the storefront widget.

What the manifesto doesn’t say

Each commitment names a practice and rules it out. The manifesto doesn’t promise Hokku will have the most features, zero downtime, or a roadmap on a fixed schedule. Those belong in the roadmap and the trust page.

What the manifesto does is set the floor. The product should prove the manifesto, not hide behind it.
