Built to be used by everyone.
Not a checkbox. A design choice. A product that excludes some people is not a good product.

Our commitment
Hokku targets WCAG 2.1 level AA conformance across this site and the upcoming Shopify app. We do not promise perfection. We promise to fix any reported issue with priority and to tell you honestly what is in scope today.
This is promise number 9 of our public manifesto: accessibility is not optional.
Standards we follow
We align with established standards rather than internal claims:
- WCAG 2.1 level AA — the international baseline for digital accessibility
- EN 301 549 — the European public-procurement accessibility standard
- European Accessibility Act (EAA), in application since June 2025
- Lighthouse accessibility score 100/100 enforced in CI on five key pages
How we test
Our continuous integration runs the following on every push to the main branch:
- pa11y-ci (axe runner) on 16 URLs covering both languages — the build fails on any axe violation
- Lighthouse CI on five key pages — the build fails if accessibility score drops below 95
- Manual smoke-tests before every release: keyboard-only navigation, focus visibility, screen-reader announcement, 200% and 400% zoom, reduced-motion preference
Automated axe-core in test runs is on the roadmap for the Hokku app submission. The marketing site is already covered by the steps above.
What works today
On gethokku.com you should expect:
- Skip-to-content link visible on first keyboard tab
- Logical heading hierarchy and unique landmarks per page
- Focus indicators on every interactive element (link, button, input, summary)
- Body text contrast above 7:1 (AAA), muted text above 4.5:1 (AA)
- prefers-reduced-motion respected — non-essential animations disabled
- Native HTML controls preferred over custom widgets — buttons are buttons, links are links
- Forms label every input and announce errors via role=alert
- Language attribute set on <html> for every locale
What we do not do yet
Honest scope of what is not in place today:
- No formal third-party audit. Lighthouse and pa11y are automated probes, not a human review.
- No real-user testing with people relying on assistive technology. Planned for the months following the Hokku app launch.
- Some external links (e.g. press kit assets, blog video embeds) inherit the accessibility of their host platform and are not under our direct control.
